U.S Embassy in Tanzania closed due to degraded network service

The United States Embassy in Tanzania has announced that it will close for two days due to the ongoing degraded network service in the country.

In a statement, the embassy said it will not operate on May 14 and 15, as Tanzania continues to experience degraded network service due to a cut submarine cable that has also affected Kenya and other countries in East and Southern Africa.

"Due to degraded network service nationwide, the embassy will remain closed to the public. All consular appointments on May 14 & 15 will be cancelled and rescheduled to a later date. The consular section will be open as scheduled for visa pick up and for emergency American citizen cases," the embassy announced.

Kenya and 11 other African countries have been encountering internet connectivity challenges after a submarine cable was cut.

This has resulted in slow internet speeds, with telcos like Safaricom issuing statements alerting their customers of the disruption.

It's not clear when the low internet speeds will end.
