Jubilee Party has kicked off its much-contested National Delegate Conference (NDC) convened by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In videos obtained by Citizen Digital on Monday morning, delegates were seen streaming into the Ngong Racecourse grounds in Nairobi donning red scarfs and hats branded with the party's logo.

The former President Uhuru Kenyatta-led outfit moved its meeting from the initial venue at Bomas of Kenya on Friday after they were informed that there are ongoing renovation works at the premise which began on May 16 and are expected to go on for eight weeks.

Uhuru, according to embattled Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe, is expected to preside over the special NDC.

This however lies on the backdrop of a stiff contention in the party over its leadership as factions from East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega and former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni have tussled over who sits at the party's top seat.

Kioni and MP Kega are fighting for control of the party, with Kioni reportedly refusing to step down as party Secretary-General to make way for MP Kega.

The Jubilee Party's National Executive Council made changes on February 9th, replacing Kioni with Kega. The Registrar of Political Parties approved the changes, but the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal overturned them.

Kioni, along with the party's Vice Chairperson David Murathe and National Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi, had been suspended for their conduct of the political outfit's affairs.

During a thanksgiving service in Isiolo Boys Secondary School grounds on Sunday, MP Kega clarified that there will be no (NDC) meeting and any assembly held on Monday will be nothing but a political gathering.

"I want to announce as the Secretary General of Jubilee, there is no NDC meeting tomorrow. We will call the meeting at the right time," said Kega.

Nominated MP Sabina Chege added that Uhuru should steer clear from any political affairs and instead focus on his retirement, further flagging the NDC meeting.

"There is no meeting tomorrow and that position lapsed 6 months ago and we are in the 8th month. We will call a legitimate meeting from the head office."
