A wanted terror suspect who holed up after being involved in the brutal murder of a police officer and two chiefs in Lamu County in 2019 has been arrested.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said that Mustakima Mohammed Ali, alias Abu Mahir, was nabbed in a Malindi-bound bus on Sunday afternoon at the Sambaki Bridge roadblock.

DCI added that after the December 2019 murders Alli and his accomplices went into hiding, first within Boni Forest and were later busted by security officials making them disappear into a neighbouring country.

The members of his suspected gang were later apprehended in April 2023 along the Isiolo-Moyale highway while heading to Somalia.

"They were charged at the Kahawa Law Courts and their case is ongoing," said DCI.

Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched for other identified suspects still at large.
