Tension in Marsabit as one dies in inter-clan clashes

Tension is high at Buluk area in North Horr, Marsabit County, following clashes between two rival clans in the area.

Reports indicate that a victim of the violence died while receiving treatment at Marsabit County Hospital.

The deceased, a Kenya Police Reservist, died after he sustained serious injuries in the inter-clan clashes.

A contingent of police officers have already been deployed to patrol the area and to offer security to residents.

Acting Marsabit County Commissioner John Kwasa has, however, assured residents that the matter will be dealt with accordingly, urging them to co-exist harmoniously.

This comes a day after four people were killed in Baringo and Turkana counties.

Three people were reportedly killed in attacks by unknown people at Endo Village on the Baringo-Elgeiyo Marakwet border, and 40 heads of cattle were stolen.

Elgeyo Marakwet County Commissioner Fredrick Ndambuki assured residents that their livestock will be traced and returned to them.

Baringo county commissioner Peter Okwanyo also confirmed that a woman was killed on Thursday at Kapedo on the Baringo-Turkana border in a retaliatory attack.

Okwanyo has now given the area chief two days to arrest the suspects.

In Mid-March, at least six houses were torched after clashes erupted in Ngongongeri area along the Njoro – Elburgon border.

The houses were burnt following a fresh confrontation between the communities living in the area over the ownership of Ngongongeri farm.

Njoro Deputy Commissioner Peter Kinyajui led a security meeting in the area to calm the situation. Kinyanjui says those inciting the residents will be arrested and prosecuted.

Early March, police were deployed to Karare area in North Horr, Marsabit County to conduct patrols after the killing of two herders.

In February 2016, one person was killed and scores injured following a land dispute at Naatoli Village along the Nakuru-Narok border.
