President William Ruto traveled to Uganda on Saturday morning, January 11, to attend the African Union Extraordinary Summit on the Post-Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).

In a statement, State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed noted that the Summit aims to rid the continent of hunger and poverty through agriculture-led policies.

Ruto's one-day official visit will seek to showcase Kenya's efforts to enhance food security and reduce poverty by creating jobs and promoting sustainable growth.

He will also highlight how the summit's agenda aligns with his Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) in realising the country's prosperity through economic transformation

The head of state will likewise spotlight the alignment of CAADP with Kenya's Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and Vision 2030, reaffirming the country's commitment to agricultural transformation.

"The summit will assess progress towards the targets set and seek to adopt the Kampala Declaration, outlining a shared vision for transforming agri-food systems from 2026 to 2035," the statement read in part.

"The outcomes are expected to shape agricultural policies that drive economic growth and achieve food security across the continent."

Further, the President will meet Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and other leaders to enhance bilateral ties and seek support for his role as champion of the African Union's Institutional Reforms.
