Ruku learns of Cabinet nomination during surprise visit by DP Kindiki

Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku was accompanying Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on a visit to the Kanyuambora irrigation water project on Wednesday when he learned of his nomination to the Cabinet.

Ruku, a staunch ally of President William Ruto, has been nominated as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes following the dismissal of Justin Muturi.

Muturi fell out with the president over his outspoken criticism of state actions, particularly concerning alleged abductions and killings of Gen Z protesters, including his own son.

Addressing locals at Kanyuambora, Ruku expressed gratitude and extended an invitation to President Ruto. "We tell the President that when he visits the Mt. Kenya region, he is welcome to Mbeere North. We will receive him like a hero, with great celebration."

Deputy President Kindiki reassured residents that the government is committed to completing the Ksh. 200 million Kanyuambora irrigation project. Currently 30% complete, the project is expected to benefit over 1,000 households once finished by September 30.

"I visited with the MP for Mbeere North to assess progress. This project will support approximately 1,000 homes in Kanyuambora," Kindiki stated. "The government's expectation is that it will be completed by the end of September."

Ruku’s nomination comes as part of a Cabinet reshuffle announced in a dispatch by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei. The changes included Muturi’s dismissal, marking the culmination of tensions between him and the president.

Muturi had openly criticized the government over extrajudicial actions and even opted out of Cabinet meetings, insisting the issue be addressed. Despite defending his stance as part of his duty, President Ruto ultimately labeled him "fairly incompetent" during an Iftar dinner at State House, citing his failure to establish the Muslim Endowment Fund (Waqf) as Attorney General.
