President Ruto hosts billionaire Bill Gates at State House
President
William Ruto on Wednesday hosted American businessman Bill Gates for talks at State House in
Nairobi.
President
Ruto, in a subsequent brief following the meeting, commended the Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation, which is co-chaired by the billionaire Microsoft
owner, for its support to Kenya in various areas such as healthcare and
agriculture.
“Hosted the co-chair of the
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates
at State House, Nairobi. We appreciate the support the Bill & Melinda
Gates Foundation continues to extend to Kenya in realising our development
goals, especially in the areas of healthcare, agriculture and ICT sectors,”
wrote the Head of State.
“We will continue to collaborate towards the realisation of food
security and universal health coverage in our country.”
Bill
Gates arrived in Kenya on Tuesday for a series of engagements and kicked off
his visit in Makueni County where he met Governor
Mutula Kilonzo.
He visited the Makueni Mother & Child hospital, then
the Kathonzweni Level 3 Hospital where he met
with medical staff and community health volunteers.
On Thursday, November 17, Gates is expected to give a
talk on Innovating for Food Security and Climate Change in Africa. The event
will be streamed live from the University of Nairobi.
