Police officer arrested after losing gun on way home from a drinking spree

A police officer has lost his firearm, wallet and mobile phone to boda boda riders after engaging in a drinking spree along Eastern Bypass. 

According to a police report obtained by Citizen Digital, Police Constable Peter Mburu, accompanied by his friends, visited a drinking joint within Mihango along Eastern Bypass near National Police College Campus at around 9:30 pm. 

After engaging in a drinking spree, the officer and his friends moved to a nearby joint to continue indulging until 2:00 am when they parted ways. 

While on his way to his parents’ residence at Green Court in Mihang’o, officer Mburu was accosted by two people on a boda boda bike. 

Following a back and forth, the boda boda riders stole a Ceska pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, a wallet containing a certificate of appointment, bank cards and also a mobile phone. 

Thereafter, the officer reported the incident at the nearby station. Officers attached to Mihang’o and DCI Kayole team visited the scene and the two joints the cop and his friends visited. 

Further, the officers visited the residence of officer Mburu’s parents at Green Court. 

The officer’s wife also confirmed that Mburu left the house while armed in the morning. 

Officer Mburu, who appeared drunk, was placed in custody to assist with the investigations. 

During interrogation, the officer failed to pinpoint the location of the alleged incident. He also had visible bruises on his mouth, elbows and on the right knee with torn trousers and a t-shirt. 

Investigations have since been launched to retrieve the firearm.
