Prosecutors on Tuesday laid out chilling details of the events
leading to Dutch businessman Tob Cohen’s death in 2019, in the murder case
against Sarah Wairimu Kamotho.
A worker at Cohen’s residence testified that July 19, 2019 was
the last time he saw Cohen alive.
He told the court that when he returned days later, Cohen was
missing. Instead, Sarah allegedly instructed him to say Cohen had travelled to
Thailand for medical treatment if anyone asked.
"Madam (Sarah) had told us that on 22nd Tom had gone for
medical…so my interpretation is that madam didn’t want anyone to know…” he testified.
The same witness testified that Cohen had confided in him days
before his death, alleging that Sarah had injured his face during a domestic
dispute.
Prosecutors revisited earlier evidence, when the same worker told
the court that while on his lunch hour break as he was walking around the
property, he noticed three mounds on top of a concrete slab that housed the
septic tank.
He noted that he had not seen the same days prior as he was
leaving. He also noted a worker clearing vegetation and placing the same on the
cement slab
Defense counsel Pravin Bowry represented Sarah, who sat
quietly as witnesses recounted chilling details of the days leading to Cohen’s
death.
"In my statement I said in the afternoon they were
already covered up by the heaps because they were doing cleaning on Monday. PW1
was doing cleaning and PW2 was in the house…there was another guy that was the
one who was working on the garden specific location," recalled the
witness.
The court heard that Cohen had written to lawyer Judy Thongori
instructing her to institute defamation and criminal liability proceedings
against Sarah for allegedly spreading false claims to police and others about
him.
