President William Ruto has kicked off a five-day development tour of the Luo Nyanza region, where he is expected to assess a number of multi-billion-shilling projects initiated by his administration while also seeking to consolidate his political support in the ODM party's backyard ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to his itinerary, the president will later on Monday hold a closed-door meeting with about 10,000 people drawn from Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori counties, a meeting that will also be attended by elected leaders from the region.

Earlier in the day, Ruto is expected to visit a number of ongoing projects in Kisumu, including the Ksh.16.7 billion, 63-kilometre Mamboleo Junction-Miwani-Chemelil-Muhoroni-Kipsitet Highway, most sections of which have already been tarmacked.

He will also inspect the Ksh.1.1 billion Rabuor-Chiga road in Nyando constituency, which is expected to ease congestion along the busy Ahero-Kisumu road by providing motorists with an alternative route.

The president will commission the jointly funded Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation Project, aimed at improving clean water and sewer connectivity in Kisumu amid a growing population.

The project, funded jointly by the Government of Kenya and the European Union, is valued at Ksh.7.5 billion.

Ruto is also set to commission the Kisumu West sub-county police headquarters at Otonglo along the Kisumu-Busia road, as well as the newly constructed Ksh.314 million Kisumu International Airport tower, an eight-storey facility featuring advanced ICT, surveillance and communication systems.

He will later hold a meet-the-people tour within the city's Jua Kali area, where politics is expected to take centre stage as he seeks to cement his political grip in the lakeside city ahead of planned coalition talks with ODM as the country gears up for 2027.

The president is being accompanied by several Cabinet Secretaries, including Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi and Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, alongside Principal Secretaries led by Interior PS Dr Raymond Omollo. Also present are Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o, who is hosting the tour, Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, who also serves as ODM National Chairperson.

On Tuesday, Ruto will visit Siaya County, where he will inspect ongoing works on the Dhogoye Bridge project in Usenge, Bondo constituency, before touring Ugenya, Rarieda and Alego Usonga constituencies. He is expected to commission several projects there, including the ongoing construction of Siaya Stadium, which is being undertaken by the Ministry of Defence, before addressing a rally at Ahindi Gardens in Siaya town.

The president will proceed to Migori County on Wednesday, where he will inspect the Stella-Sibuoche-Gogo road in Uriri constituency and the Kanyawanga-Kwoyo-Madiaba road in Awendo constituency, before visiting Kuria West and Suna East constituencies to inspect more national government projects.

Ruto will conclude the tour in Homa Bay County on Thursday, September 17, where his administration has invested heavily in a number of projects, most of which have been completed.

He is expected to visit Economic Stimulus Programme markets in Misambi, Kabondo Kasipul constituency; Kendu Bay in Karachuonyo constituency; and Kijabe in Suba South constituency. He will also tour the Sindo KMTC access road and town roads in Suba South constituency, and the Junction-Kodiyo-Pier road in Homa Bay Town constituency.
