The wreckage of the car accident that claimed the lives of 7 family members.
A family in Limuru has been shattered after a tragic road
accident claimed seven of their loved ones, including three brothers and three
children of one of the deceased brothers.
The fatal crash, which also claimed the son of their household worker, occurred
near High Peak, along the Mai Mahiu-Naivasha Road, while they were
returning from a relative's funeral.
The family has shared the devastating challenge of laying to
rest their loved ones, as the sister of the three deceased siblings reflected
on how she miraculously survived by deciding to remain behind.
Francis Muturi died in the accident along with his three
children. His widow was left in shock and hospitalized after learning about the
tragedy.
"She was treated after we left, then she became ill and
is now hospitalized,” a family member, Lawrence Thuo, said.
The family now carries a heavy burden, both emotionally and
financially, as they struggle with the cost of burying seven loved ones.
Esther Wambui Kirubi, a sister of the three brothers who died,
describes how she miraculously survived the tragedy. She did not travel with
her brothers home.
"We have a heavy burden. We need money for the
post-mortem, we also need to buy coffins and hire vehicles. It’s a burden that
has overwhelmed us,” she said.
"I was supposed to return with them, but one of my brothers
told me not to return with them and to stay behind."
A family worker, Hanna Wanjiku, who also lost her son in
the accident, has decided to wait until the family buries six of their members
before laying her son to rest.
"I’ve decided to bury mine last after they have been
buried first because it’s a huge burden,” she said.
