Orengo calls for implementation of NADCO recommendations, or else a return of protests
Led by Siaya governor James Orengo, the Azimio leadership lamented that they have noticed that the Kenya Kwanza government has hesitated to implement the NADCO report.
"We are telling our political friends on the other side that they must implement NADCO within the timelines that were agreed," he said
Orengo spoke during Siaya County’s ODM party delegates’ consultative forum in Alego/Usonga constituency on Sunday.
He also laughed off the succession politics which has started to take centre stage in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leadership.
The governor stated that they shall continue to support Azimio leader Raila Odinga as the ODM party leader because no vacancy has been announced in that position.
"We continue to support Raila Amolo Odinga as our party leader because no vacancy has been announced in the seat of the party leader," he added.
The consultative meeting also resolved to enhance ODM party recruitment across the region ahead of the party grassroots elections.
Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga, County MP Dr. Christine Ombaka and MPs Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), Otiende Amollo (Rarieda) and host Samuel Atandi (Alego/Usonga) were also among the etendees.
While reading the meeting's resolutions, Governor Orengo stated that they want to ensure that Siaya remains strictly an ODM county.
He also stated that as ODM party, they shall strive to ensure that those who lost their loved ones during the anti-government protests last year and those who sustained injuries are supported.
The NADCO report, presented on November 25 under the chairmanship of Kalonzo Musyoka and Kimani Ichungw'ah, outlined recommendations including a proposal to reduce road maintenance and anti-adulteration levies.
The committee said the talks yielded the amicable resolve to create both offices to foster national unity between the opposition and the government.
Some of the proposed changes include taming the high cost of living, establishing the offices of the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Official Opposition among others.
