One man, two obituaries: Man mourned separately by two wives as each publishes own eulogy

The two obituaries also featured two completely different images of the same man; in the eulogy by Prisca's family, the late Kithyo wore a hat on top of what appears to be a bandana. 

The photo appears to be from when he was much younger. 

In the second eulogy, the image is more recent and depicts a much older Kithyo, this time dressed in a shirt and cowboy hat. 

Kata Matemu Kithyo, a distinguished engineer and brother of former EACC chairperson Mumo Matemu, died from illness on April 18, 2024, in Mewapa, Mombasa. 

According to two eulogies published in the Daily Nation, he leaves a legacy of family and love, and he is survived by children and grandchildren from both unions.

Kata is remembered as a devoted husband and father in his obituary by Prisca Mukethe Kithyo. 

He is mourned by his children Mark Muinde Kithyo, Melany Mwelu Kithyo, and Ruth Kivinya Kithyo (based in Canada), along with grandchildren Jason Nzau Kata, Sydney Mulekyo Kata (of the Canadian Airforce), Michael Kusema (of the Canadian Army), Jade Mwende Muinde, and Rhys Katanu Philip. 

He is also survived by siblings Isaac Kimeu Matemu, Mwikali Kasamu, Mumo Matemu, Nduku Matamu, Mutisya Matemu, and Nicholas Wambua Matemu. 

Prisca's family has stated that more information on funeral arrangements will be released soon.

Meanwhile, Agnes Murorunkwere Kata's tribute focuses on Kata's life and family from her perspective. 

In her obituary, Kata is remembered as Agnes' loving husband and father of Mark Muinde, Melany Kithyo, Ruth Kivinya, Arianne Okong'o, Billy Kata, Olga Kata, and Samuel.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and condolences at Nairobi Baptist Church's Children's Tabernacle on April 23rd, 24th, and 26th, 2024. 

A fundraising event to support burial expenses will take place on April 24th at the same venue.
