One killed, 3 injured in crash on Kagio-Baricho road

According to the police chief, the vehicle—a Suzuki Swift—was being driven by a nurse at the Baricho Health Centre.

One person died and three others were seriously injured in a grisly road accident at Thumaita along Kagio-Baricho in Ndia, Kirinyaga County.

According to Kirinyaga West (Ndia) Sub-County Police Commander Moses Koskei, the accident occurred Wednesday night when the ill-fated vehicle rolled several times before landing in a ditch.

According to the police chief, the vehicle—a Suzuki Swift—was being driven by a nurse at the Baricho Health Centre.

The vehicle was carrying three other occupants at the time of the accident: another nurse from the Sagana Sub-County Hospital and two men.

According to reports, the two men were seriously injured in the crash.

"It happened  that the  vehicle  was headings  to baricho  general  direction from kagio town and upon reaching  at thumaita  lost control ,veered off the road and landed upside down on the left side of the road as one faces baricho general direction  and  due to the impact   the driver  now  deceased Monica Kiragu, a nurse at Baricho Health Centre   was seriously injured  on the head and was unconscious.' Moses Koskei said.

The police chief also stated that three passengers, including Sagana sub-county hospital nurse Diana Muriuki, sustained deep cuts on their right hands.

Two men, Boniface Wanjohi and Joseph Mbogo, were also injured. Wanjohi was slightly injured on his lips and complained of chest and hip pain, while Mbogo complained of chest and stomach pain as well as head bruises, according to Koskei.

Koskei warned motorists against speeding along roads in Ndia constituency to avoid accidents.

According to Koskei, the four people were rushed to Baricho Health Centre before being transferred to Kerugoya Level 5 County Hospital, where the driver died from injuries.

The driver's body was moved to the Kerugoya level 5 hospital mortuary for autopsy, while the heavily damaged vehicle was towed to the Sagana police station.

Meanwhile, Kirinyaga west sub-county police commander Moses Koskei stated that investigations into the accident have begun.
