Police in Utawala are investigating the mysterious death of
a Grade 9 student at Lakewood Private School after he was found dead within the
school compound on Friday morning, having allegedly fallen from the third floor
of a building.
The family of 14-year-old Randy Mathenge is demanding
answers, rejecting the school's account that he jumped and died instantly.
They are calling for a thorough and independent
investigation as questions mount over the circumstances surrounding his death.
Citizen TV visited Kenyatta National Hospital Mortuary, where the family members
of Randy were inconsolable.
They say the sudden death of their 14-year-old son has left them
devastated and searching for answers.
The family says the school's explanation remains
unconvincing, questioning how their son could have died barely an hour after
arriving at school on Friday morning in good health.
According to the family, school administrators told them
that the student allegedly jumped from one of the buildings, citing mental
distress as a possible cause.
"My son is always healthy. We are told that he jumped
from the third floor. We seek justice. All I want is to know what happened. My
son is my firstborn,” said Randy’s mother Joce Kilwake.
The family is challenging the school's account, alleging a
possible cover-up and demanding answers over Randy's final moments.
"We cannot believe this. What we need are answers
without a cover-up because when you look at the scene and what we are being
told, they are not matching,” Randy’s father David Kisali noted.
The family is urging DCI detectives to reconstruct the
scene, questioning how their son suffered fatal head injuries without visible
injuries on the rest of his body.
"Yaani ata mkono hakuna bruises. Huyu mtoto alifika
shule akiwa salama. We really doubt the school,” said Randy’s aunt Evelyn
Kimingich.
Randy's body is awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death as police continue with investigations.
