Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament (MP) Zaheer Jhanda has criticised members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party for censuring the government while still maintaining a political partnership.

According to the legislator, ODM should not lecture the State on how it opts to run operations, and if they have any objections, they should leave the broad-based government.

"ODM should not threaten or lecture us on how to run the government or human rights issues. They have never won any elections," he said on Saturday.

"If they’re uncomfortable in the broad-based government, then leave quickly."

The legislator further dared the party to ask its Ministers to resign from President William Ruto's cabinet, "and then we shall take you seriously".

This comes after a number of ODM-affiliated politicians have fired at the State on the aftermath of the recent anti-government protests.

ODM leader Raila Odinga has called for an urgent national dialogue to address Kenya's socio-political and economic crisis that has seen thousands troop to the streets in protests over recent months.

He proposed the establishment of what he called a national conclave to chart a new path for the country through collective civic engagement and reform, saying it would be the ideal composition, where 40 people would be selected from across the 47 counties.

“50% must be youth, the remaining 50% people of middle age, and people of old age will be few. We shoulf have that so that we tackle our issues. We do not want to go into 2027 elections wilth much rage," he said.

Likewise, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, ODM's national chairperson, condemned the incidents of police brutality and extrajudicial killings across the country, calling for swift legal action against those responsible.

In response to a series of troubling police cases she mourned the death of teacher Albert Ojwang who died in police custody, highlighting several other disturbing incidents among them was Philip Oketch, who was allegedly shot during the protests, and Gabriel Mwita Chacha, who is reported to have been severely beaten by police on Ringiti Island.

National assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has also faulted the government over the shooting remarks issued by some of the top government officials, including President Ruto's shoot-in-the-leg order, saying that any offender should be arrested and taken to court.

He further maintained that ODM will work with the government until 2027, when it will announce its next political step.
