Traders at the Maasai Market in Nairobi's central business district held demonstrations against what they have termed as unfair displacement from their place of work.

The traders say they have been doing business next to the Supreme Court of Kenya on weekends since 2008.

According to the traders, a private investor who operates a parking lot is charging them Ksh. 2000 every Saturday, leaving out those who cannot afford it.

The county government of Nairobi says the traders were moved to the sunken parking lot along Aga Khan Walk after their initial market was destroyed during the Gen Z-led demos.

A statement from the governor's office says the land on which the Maasai traders are presently conducting their business is privately owned but has invited their leaders on Monday to chart a way forward.
