Nairobi County Speaker, Clerk summoned by EACC over chaos
The Nairobi County Assembly clerk, Jacob Ngwele, and Speaker, Alex Magelo, have been summoned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) following chaos at the assembly when an impeachment motion against Governor Evans Kidero was to be tabled on September 29, 2016.
In a letter from the EACC signed by Deputy Secretary, Michael Mubea, Magelo has been asked to appear before the commission on October 7, 2016.
“Our investigators Derrick Kaisha and Jackson Agai will be available to receive you and record statements,” read the statement in part.
Both Magelo and Ngwele are required to service the EACC team with, among others, CCTV footage of the chaos.
Ngwele will appear before the EACC on October 6, 2016.
The motion to impeach Governor Kidero failed to take off on after Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) roughed up a colleague behind the motion.
Samuel Nyangwara, the Viwandani Ward representative, who also belongs to ODM, was forced to cut short his motion after the MCAs physically stopped him from proceeding.
