Mt. Kenya will be in government until 2032 - MP Kaguchia

Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia in a panel discussion with Citizen TV on July 25, 2023.

Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia has laughed off rumours of Mt. Kenya region disgruntlement with President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration, saying the region will remain in government until 2032.

Kaguchia said no matter what happens in Mt. Kenya or with Kenya Kwanza, the region will remain united with Ruto, even when he seeks re-election come 2027.

"There is no way we are going to pull our people out of government. We made very many promises in the Mt. Kenya region and we are in government as of right. For that reason I can tell you without any shadow of doubt, we are going to be in government for five years, and until 2032," Kaguchia said.

Last week, a section of leaders met in what has been termed as Limuru III, where they made a decree denouncing Ruto's administration, saying the Mt. Kenya region has been neglected by the same government they supported overwhelmingly.

The meeting attended largely by opposition leaders in the Mt. Kenya region saw the formation of the Haki Coalition, whose aim is to champion the interests of the people of the region and put Ruto's administration in check.

Leaders allied to Ruto have, however, dismissed the meeting, saying the Mt. Kenya people will remain in government.

This also comes at a time when there is a rumoured fallout between Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua. The DP went missing for a week, skipping key state functions, only to resurface on Sunday in Nyeri, and later saw off Ruto as he made a state visit to the US.

Gachagua'a allies led by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga seemed to confirm the rumours, saying that the people of Mt. Kenya will not allow Gachagua to be mistreated.

Kahiga said there are people trying to bring bad blood between Ruto and Gachagua, but vowed to stand by the DP no matter what.

"We will not allow our son to be humiliated the same way Ruto was humiliated by Uhuru. There are people causing bad blood between our DP and the president. We will not allow that to happen," Kahiga said.
