MPs being offered Ksh.5M to sign my impeachment motion: DP Gachagua
Speaking to Mwea residents in Kirinyaga County, Gachagua revealed that his opposers attempted to bribe county Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Senator James Murango, whom he noted declined in defiance.
He added that such attempts would not deter his bid to fight for the Kenyans who voted him in office.
"Njeri was called and they tried to sell her fear by telling her to sign for my impeachment but she declined. She was told to take Ksh.5 million but refused. Senator James Murango was also offered cash but he declined," he explained.
The DP shifted his focus on his boss, President William Ruto, calling him to refrain from instigating the impeachment motion.
Gachagua and his allies have accused the president of orchestrating his ouster in the background by pulling the strings of several MPs to push the motion in Parliament.
"I was elected by the people of Kenya, not by the president. Both the president and I were elected on one ticket and you chose Ruto because I was there. If Gachagua was not there, you would not have chosen him," Gachagua said.
"If he's tired with Mt Kenya votes, let him tell us. We took him as our own and voted for him earnestly. He should stop telling the MPs to kick us out office," he added.
In the past weeks, the DP has been touring Nairobi and Mt Kenya region, rallying his supporters behind him.
At a time when his boss is in New York for the UN General Assembly event, Gachagua and his allies have seized the opportunity to expose the dirty laundry within the Kenya Kwanza administration.
This emanated in a tell-all interview with Citizen TV, where he revealed the strained relationship with President Ruto, saying that he was removed from the president's official WhatsApp group.
Further, his allies have questioned Ruto's silence over the matter, urging him to crack the whip on members who constantly insulted his deputy.
Reports indicate that the DP's impeachment motion is set to be formally tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, October 1, with over 300 signatures collected.
