On Wednesday afternoon, Zacharia Wanjohi’s family was summoned to Kaptembwa Police Station in Nakuru West.
They rushed to the station only to be told that the decomposed body of an unidentified female, discovered dumped in a plantation at Technology Farm on Monday, was that of their kin, Hannah Waithera.
Waithera, who operated a mobile money agent shop in Nakuru CBD, was last seen on Wednesday last week as she left the shop to deposit more than Ksh.250,000 in a bank.
She never returned, leaving the family searching for answers on her whereabouts. The family says her phone was last switched off in the Kijabe area on the day she went missing.
"Nikampigia simu hakushika… nikaenda kwa job kumuulizia nikaambiwa alitoka saa saba na hapatikani na hashiki… nikazunguka kumtafuta nikapeana askari rafiki yangu number amtafute… mama akasema bado hajapatikana na job hayuko," Zacharia Wanjohi, Waithera’s husband, stated.
The family reported the matter at the Central Police Station in Nakuru. These latest developments in the case are a blow to them.
They say that days after the mysterious disappearance of their kin, officers raided their home and harassed them as they sought to find out the whereabouts of Waithera.
"Walikuja kutuharass wakatoa vita mbaya sana… naona walitukosea kuja kutuharass na tumetoka kutuandikisha, kabla tufike walikuwa wameshakuja… kuingia kurudia bag kwa gari, alimshika akamgonga, madam akatutolea pistol tukanyanganywa simu zote," Mary Njeri, Waithera’s Mother, noted.
The death is under investigation at the Central Police Station in Nakuru. Police officers have yet to comment on the matter.
