In a recent health initiative aimed at promoting road safety, a quarter of school drivers who underwent medical examinations at a free medical camp in Thika were diagnosed with diabetes.

Experts express concern over this revelation, pointing out that these kinds of health issues put drivers at serious risk and may even be a factor in traffic accidents.

Along with diabetes, many drivers were found to have vision impairments, highlighting the potential dangers on the road.

The findings from the medical camp highlight the critical importance of regular health screenings for drivers, especially those who transport children to and from school.

Diabetes, which affects millions of people worldwide, can cause complications such as impaired vision and neuropathy, which can significantly impair a driver's ability to operate a vehicle safely.

As road safety remains a top priority, initiatives like the Thika medical camp play a crucial role in identifying and addressing potential health hazards among drivers, ultimately contributing to safer roads for all.

The medical camp that brought together 112 drivers from different schools was organized by Thika Motor Dealers (TMD), ISUZU Kenya and Lions Eye of Kenya.
