Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i is set to
make his first public appearance this year in the Gusii region on Friday, May 2,
2025.
Matiang'i, according to a statement released by his
secretariat, will begin his tour in Nyansiongo, and make stopovers in Kijauri,
Keroka, Keumbu, Kisii Town and Nyamira.
He will be accompanied by elected leaders from the Gusii
region, including Governors Simba Arati (Kisii), Amos Nyaribo (Nyamira),
Senators Richard Onyonka (Kisii), Okong'o Omogeni (Nyamira), as well as Members
of County Assemblies and Members of Parliament.
As part of his tour, the former CS will make courtesy visits
to the offices of the respective Governors of Kisii and Nyamira counties.
While explaining Matiangi's itinerary, Governor Nyaribo, who's
part of his secretariat, revealed that the Gusii tour highlights the former
CS's commitment to listening to the voices of the common mwananchi.
"Tunaomba watu wajitokeze, wamsalimie. Matiang'i ni mtu
wa amani na anataka kuwa rais mwaka wa 2027 lakini kabla hajatangaza lazima
apate maoni kutoka nyumbani na kila mahali kwingine," the Governor stated.
Matiang'i jetted back into the country on April 17, 2025, from
the United States amid speculations of his candidacy in the 2027 presidential
elections.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party officially endorsed Matiang'i as
its presidential candidate, citing that his extensive experience in public
service is the key to addressing the country's woes.
“We, as the Jubilee Party, have our candidate, Fred Matiang’i.
He will face off with the others to ensure (President William) Ruto goes
home," Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni stated recently.
Matiang'i has yet to make an official statement regarding his
political ambitions.
