#KOT reacts to Ndichu twins' 'we were defending ourselves' statement
Kenyans
on Twitter were almost unanimous in their disapproval of a statement made by
Wapi Pay founders Eddie and Paul Ndichu on a violent incident appearing
involving them at a city hotel last Saturday .
The
statement, which came a day after a video went viral showing one of them
attacking a side-mirror and then being involved in another fight at the hotel
lobby. The twins were condemned loudly online with people accusing them of
gender-based violence.
Kenyans
trooped to Twitter shortly after they released a statement calling for patience
and restraint as authorities investigate the events of that fateful night.
Kenya’s
lawyer-turned-politician, Miguna Miguna referred to the twins as “violent men.”
“Paul
Ndichu and Eddie Ndichu are violent men who physically assaulted a woman at Ole
Sereni Hotel in Nairobi a few days ago. They must be arrested and charged,” he
said as he called on the police to act.
Former
IEBC commissioner, Roselyn Akombe applauded Miguna’s statement, calling on
corporates not to work with the twins.
“Those who continue to invest in ventures such
as @wapi_pay are complicit in promoting #GBV…”
Kenyan
artiste Wahu Kagwi rubbished the statement saying it was “not an apology.”
“This is
in no way an apology. This is a poor attempt to clear guilty, irresponsibility
and violent behaviour,” she said.
“You
insinuate that neither you nor your co-founders tolerate gender based violence
yet the footage indicates otherwise.”
Media
personality Dj Soxxy reiterated that the statement by the tech gurus only
seemed to add fuel to the fire.
“Again I
say it’s better not to respond.”
