Karua: my issue with Uhuru's infrastructure projects
Speaking to Sunday Nation, Karua said their high cost implies the level of corruption being perpetuated.
“On infrastructure we can see it being developed like the express way, and it is very beautiful and reminds me of other countries. It is a plus, but a negative as well, at what cost? Is that the real cost, or is there a hidden cost?” posed Karua.
“The cost of infrastructure s country has gone up; I would say a thousand fold. Our infrastructure is more expensive than those in the developed world. It tells you of the level of corruption,” she added.
Rating the performance of the Uhuru Kenyatta-led government, Karua said it has performed badly, especially in fighting graft.
“One very sticky issue the president cannot escape from is the `COVID billionaires'. It is scandalous, during a pandemic and nobody is acting on it. This actually encourages more and more of such scandals,” said Karua.
Karua, who once ran for president in the 2013 presidential elections, further condemned the police in connection with the recent abductions reported in the country.
“You cannot say you adhere to human rights and the most outstanding issue to human rights is the abductions. Even though the police deny it they are the ones, if they are not then they have the business of telling us who is. If they cannot tell us, we will be justified to conclude it is them.”
So far, Karua has stated that she is focused on clinching the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat, even though she has not ruled out the chances of her changing her mind if approached to be someone’s running mate.
Karua has been in the headlines lately as the country gears up towards the 2022 general elections.
Amid talk of whether she should run for the deputy president’s seat, she has stated that she is focused on clinching the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat at the moment.
She has, however, stated that she has not ruled out the chances of her changing her mind if approached to be someone’s running mate.
