In a circular released to members of the public, the Ministry says the taskforce on the review of the ICT sector law is set to undertake a comprehensive review of the communication acts of 1998 and identify any gaps.
"The terms of reference of the said taskforce are to identify inconsistencies in the act and propose specific review requirements congruent with the ICT policy guidelines, 2020," read the circular.
The taskforce, which was gazetted in January 2020, will also develop SIM card regulations, broadcasting regulations, access and infrastructure sharing regulations, and interconnection regulations.
According to the Communication Authority Director General Ezra Chiloba, the move offers an opportunity to the public to enrich the ongoing review of the ICT sector law, the Kenya Information and Communications act 1988.
"The sector review is an opportunity to enrich the Kenya Information and Communications act 1988 and other associated regulations," CA Director-General Ezra Chiloba said.
During that period, the taskforce will also undertake stakeholder and public consultation on the regulations and perform any activities required for the effective discharge of it's mandate.
Members of the public have until 31st May 2022 to forward their submissions and comments to the chairman of the taskforce on review of the KICA, 1998.
The Kenya Information and Communications Act has undergone various amendments including the review of the National ICT policy in 2019
