Isiolo governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo has reached out to his political rival, former governor Godana Doyo and buried their political differences at a public event in Kinna.

Doyo stated during the event that he accepted the governor's olive branch as a sign of political maturity.

Doyo, a pioneer governor, told the public that Governor Guyo approached him openly and without hesitation - a call he considered and eagerly accepted.

“Today, I stand tall before you to formally accept his call for this grand and public handshake for the sole purpose of unity and development”

The former county boss also challenged some of his supporters who rubbished the handshake to look at the bigger picture saying there is no enmity in politics.

“There comes a time when you decide to bury your head in the sand, foregoing your personal interest for the betterment of the entire Isiolo community. I’ve henceforth accepted Guyo as my legally elected governor”

Doyo also dismissed allegations that he was pocketed by the current county boss for personal gain, calling them baseless and unfounded, sentiments shared by governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo alias Kayole.

Governor Abdi said his desire and aspirations are to continue bridging gaps that exist to cultivate peaceful co-existence and love among all communities living in Isiolo County under his leadership.

“I met with my brother Doyo and resolved to work together regardless of our political differences and the barbs we traded during the campaigns. That is behind us now hence our mutual agreement for the handshake. Let other leaders learn from this and act decisively as well”

He also promised to form a strong umbrella of community elders drawn from all Isiolo communities to foster peace, love, and unity.

The Jubilee governor, who also announced his allegiance to President William Ruto’s administration, is expected to reach out to other politicians, like former woman's representative Rehema Jaldesa, for a political truce.

During the last General Election, Doyo received 26,270 votes as an Independent candidate, compared to former Spring Valley/Matopeni ward MCA Abdi Ibrahim Guyo's 28,926 votes, becoming Kenya's first MCA to win the governorship.

Residents praised the handshake and urged other politicians to follow suit.

The event was graced by Pastoralist Parliamentary Group patron and Saku law maker Hon. Dido Ali Rasso and Isiolo woman MP Mumina Gollo
