Gaucho released on Ksh.5K bail after City Hall arrest
Self-proclaimed
Bunge la Mwananchi president Calvin Okoth Otieno alias Gaucho was Tuesday
released on a Ksh.5,000 cash bail by a Kiambu court after his Monday arrest outside
City Hall, Nairobi.
Otieno
was reportedly captured by undercover police for unknown reasons while engaging
supporters outside the county headquarters.
The
aspiring politician who is a staunch supporter of the opposition leader Raila
Odinga as well as former president Uhuru Kenyatta was arraigned on charges of
creating disturbance, according to detectives.
Police
said Tuesday evening that Gaucho pleaded not guilty.
“Earlier
today, Calvin Okoth Otieno alias "Gaucho" was arraigned before Kiambu
law courts on charges of creating disturbance contrary to section 95 (1)(b) of
the penal code. The suspect pleaded not guilty and was released on a Sh20,000
bond or cash bail of Sh5,000,” read a report from the Directorate of Criminal
Investigations.
Monday’s
arrest was the second time Gaucho was caught within a week.
Last
Tuesday, May 23, he was arrested and detained overnight at Muthangari police
station before being released with no charges.
Former
Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa spoke against last week’s arrest,
terming it as intimidation by the government.
“They arrested Gaucho, the ghetto president because he spoke the truth about how President Ruto lied to Kenyans. It is the truth, hustlers are suffering,” he said over the weekend at an event at Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s Yatta farm in Kitui, which brought together various leaders from the opposition.
