Ex-police officer fatally shoots wife, turns gun on self

Police officers in the Kuresoi South, Nakuru County are investigating a case in which a retired senior police officer shot and killed his 63-year-old wife.

According to Kuresoi South police commander Jeremiah Leariwala, it is alleged that Joel Kiptanui, who was a licensed gun holder, shot his wife Sarah Chepkemoi on the head and hand. Sarah died on the spot. 

Kiptanui later shot himself on the chest. He died while receiving treatment in a hospital in Molo.

“We do not know how the dispute emerged. But we know Kiptanui is a licenced firearm holder. He used his Ceska pistol,”Leariwala told Citizen Digital on phone. 

The police officers visited the home, and recovered the gun and rounds of magazine. 

The bodies of the two have been kept in the same mortuary in Molo.
