Ex-Kinango MP Benjamin Tayari appointed Kenya Ports Authority chair

Former Kinango Member of Parliament Benjamin Tayari has been appointed the Chairperson of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA)’s Board of Directors.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen in a Gazette notice dated January 13, 2023, said Tayari’s appointment takes effect immediately and will last three years.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4 (a) of the Kenya Ports Authority Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport appoints Benjamin Dalu Tayari to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Ports Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 13th January 2023,” said CS Murkomen.

Subsequently, Murkomen said the appointment of Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Kibwana had been revoked.

At the same time, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u appointed Darshan Shah, Wilkister Simiyu, Fancy Too, Michael Kamau Kamiru and Samir Ibrahim as members of the Board of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

The five will serve as board members for a period of three years.

“The appointment of Susan Mudhune, Mukesh Shah, Amb. Richard Opembe, Leonard Ithau (Eng.) and Charles Makori Omanga is revoked,” CS Ndung’u said.

The Treasury CS also appointed former Salaries and Remuneration Commission chairperson Sarah Serem to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Post Office Savings Bank, for a period of three years starting January 13, 2023

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi in the meantime appointed 13 members of the Kenya Veterinary Board.

They are John Demesi Mande, Samwel G. Mugo, Joan Akumu Magero, Jafred M. A. Kitaa, Cathryn Wanjiru Wanjohi, Derrick Chibeu, Benson Oduor Ameda, Oreste Karanja Kuria, Queereenuse Pacho Oluoch , Mumina Guyo Shibia, Isaac Lekolol, Samson Muthuri M’Tuaruchiu, and  Sarah Kapkarich.

They will also serve for a period of three years.
