The Eastleigh Business District Association (EBDA) has publicly endorsed the nomination of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji for appointment as the next Director General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

EBDA Chairman Mzee Ahmed Yare, in a statement to newsrooms on Thursday, noted that Haji is the right man for the job owing to his strong background in law enforcement and his commitment to upholding the rule of law.

"Haji has made remarkable contributions, including his exemplary work at the Attorney General's Office and his previous position as the Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime Unit at the NIS. His dedication to excellence and duty has distinguished him in these high-ranking roles," said Mzee Yare.

The EBDA Chairman similarly lauded Haji for introducing significant reforms in the country's judicial system during his tenure as DPP, further noting that his policies have thrown a spanner in the works of graft dealings across the country.

"Haji's progressive review of policies and guidelines in the prosecution sector has disrupted the outdated and corrupt system of the past, earning him adversaries amongst those who benefited from it," he stated.

Mzee Yare went on to commend Haji for playing a key role in advocating for human rights and being vocal in combating extrajudicial killings.

"Haji's return to the NIS as the Director General signifies a new chapter in his career. With his extensive experience he is well-prepared to effectively address the national security challenges facing our nation," said Yare.

President William Ruto, on May 16, nominated Haji for appointment to the NIS docket.

His nomination came ahead of the retirement of Major-General (Rtd) Philip Wachira Kameru, the outgoing NIS Director-General. Kameru has been at the helm of NIS since September 2014.

Should Haji's appointment be approved by Parliament, the DPP will return to NIS where he previously served as the Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime Unit.
