Drama as man hangs on CS Munya's chopper in Meru
Residents of Igembe South, Meru County, were
on Wednesday treated to a spectatcle after an unidentified man hung onto the
landing skid of a helicopter ferrying Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Peter
Munya and EALA MP Mpuru Aburi.
The incident occurred at Kiegoi market after
Munya successfully held a rally on the grounds in a bid to solicit votes for
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga
ahead of the August polls.
In a video seen by Citizen Digital, the man
can be seen hanging precariously on the landing skid just as the helicopter prepares
to take off from the grounds.
The helicopter pilot seemed to be unaware of
the stowaway on board and only came to the realisation after a section of
residents who had gathered at the market beckoned him to land the chopper, even
as others cheered the man on.
In a final act of defiance, the man waved
goodbye to the crowd just as the helicopter touched down before taking to his
heels after law enforcement officers attempted to apprehend him.
Igembe South police boss Hussein Ali said the
man was spared because officers were of the opinion that he would cause a scene
at the holding cells.
The incident mirrors a similar one in 2017 where
an unidentified man, later aptly dubbed James Bond, hung onto Odinga's
helicopter after he visited Meru County for a voter registration exercise in
Maili Tatu grounds, Igembe Central.
The pilot would land the plane approximately
20 kilometres away from the grounds with the stowaway still on board.
