Developers ask for clarity of flight path after Ruto order on Eastleigh buildings

Property developers around Nairobi's Eastleigh area have now reacted to President William Ruto's move to rescind his early declaration of lifting restrictions on the height of buildings in the area.

In a statement, the Property Developers' Welfare Society of Nairobi now wants clarification on the flight path for the Kenya Air Force planes so that their members can adhere to the same.

Further, the Chairman of the Society Abrahaman Abdi says that developers who have already followed the rules should not be affected by the changes.

"We wish to emphasise our commitment to adhering to these directives while also encouraging all the developers to follow the approved plans they were given by the city county of Nairobi," Abdi said.

President Ruto while attending the 60th Kenya Air Force Anniversary celebrations at the Eastleigh Air Base said that after consultations his government has decided to stick with the set guidelines that restrict developers to put up buildings not exceeding 12 storeys.

This is due to the area's proximity to the air base, to prevent any security threats from taller buildings or interference with KAF aircraft.

A month ago, Ruto had visited Eastleigh and declared that his government had lifted the restrictions, saying that developers were at liberty to construct buildings as high as 25-30 storeys.

Ruto said the move was aimed at creating more housing for the ever-growing city population.

But he rescinded on his earlier declaration, saying the government in conjunction with the county government will follow the set regulations that restrict buildings to 12 storeys.

The developers now feel like the contradicting declarations are affecting them, and now they want a meeting to find an amicable solution, especially for those whose plans had been approved for taller buildings.

"As stakeholders in the development sector, we advocate for transparent communication, clarity in regulation and supportive environment for sustainable growth," they added.
