A fiery President William Ruto took on Members of Parliament who are fond of opposing his government's proposals yet they are a no-show when needed to debate in the National Assembly.

Ruto, who was speaking during a church service in Kakamega County on Sunday, said that he once took a bill in parliament to iron out the hurdles in the sugar sector and a certain MP was protesting it in public rallies.

He went on to add that when a debate on the bill was held in the House the said MP was absent, a stunt Ruto sternly condemned.

"A certain MP came to complain saying "tawe, tawe" and he was just saying that in public. The day I proposed the bill to scrap off the Ksh.117 billion (debt for sugar companies) that person was not in parliament that day, he was protesting in the streets," Ruto retorted.

"That's stupidity I cannot entertain. If you truly care about your people be present so that we know you value their interests but on a critical day when matters that affect your constituents are being discussed you are not there and then you have no solutions. All you do is just oppose."

The President further promised that his government is committed to streamline the sugar sector in Kenya and ensure that it starts yielding colossal profits.

He said that the government has sought to lease the sugar companies, lamenting that Kenya has been spending much on importing sugar.

"No sugar company will be sold there will be no sale, privatisation of any sugar factory we are going to do a leasing management that is going to make sure that we get the best for our farmers, employees and also for the industry so that we have enough sugar," he said.

He further added that he will be taking a bill to Parliament in June that seeks to have Ksh.3 billion allocated for cane development in the sugar industry.

This comes a few days after Bumula MP Jack Wamboka was seen addressing a rally in Bungoma County, where Ruto was in attendance, urging the president to not privatise the Nzoia sugar factory arguing that it will cripple the region's economy.

"People do not want the factory in Trans Nzoia to be sold. Listen Mr.Preisdent, on privatisation or selling we are saying tawe."
