Activists Morara Kebaso, Kasmuel McOure clash on live TV over political ideologies
Political activists Kasmuel McOure and Morara
Kebaso clashed in a heated debate over their approach to politics following the
anti-government protests that rocked the nation in mid-2024.
The two activists, who rose to the limelight
due to the Gen Z-led demonstrations, gave differing opinions on their approach
to the political arena.
Kasmuel accused Morara of staging stunts to
invoke emotions from the public and subsequently gain political mileage.
He claimed that Morara's political party,
INJECT, only sought to serve his interests of vying for the presidency.
"INJECT came a time when we had agreed
to keep this as a movement but he comes along, works up the public's emotions,
sources for funds, some from dubious sources, culminates into a party,"
Kasmuel stated on Citizen TV's Daybreak.
"A party that lacks ideologies, which
founding members have come out to say the leader is serving self-interests.
This is something we had seen prior."
In response, Morara faulted Kasmuel's
decision to join the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, citing that the political
outfit’s leader Raila Odinga served his interests by acquiring positions in
government at the expense of the Gen Z movement.
"I am blaming Raila Odinga for taking
advantage of the Gen Z demonstration and riding on the blood of the youth who
have died to benefit himself economically and have positions in the
government," he retorted.
Not taking kindly to the comments, Kasmuel
questioned the values that Morara's party is based on and whether he had a pure
motive to serve the public.
"Your approach seems focused on
legitimizing your part of the struggle through confrontation, going against the
prevailing sentiment. If you truly want to transform this country, honesty and
integrity are key - pulling stunts to incite emotions won’t help," Kasmuel
added.
Despite the back and forth, both activists
agreed that youths needed to join the political space to transform the status
quo and bring the necessary change.
"While I might find fault with all these
political parties, we know that if we need to have a conversation with
President Ruto because he refuses to listen to us, he will listen to these
youth leaders. We must continue to find sustainable ways to do this,"
Kasmuel emphasised.
"We cannot continue to donate bodies to
the streets so that people come and capture harvest," he added.
