A 70-year-old woman has been killed by a swarm of bees at Ratang’a trading centre in Central Kwabwai location, Ndhiwa sub-county of Homa Bay County.

The granny, identified as Anastasia Bunde Oyugi, is said to have met her death when a swarm of bees attacked her as she was passing near an unseen bee hive at a solar light post on Wednesday evening.

Following the abrupt attack, she sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a private health facility but succumbed during treatment.

According to Kwabwai Central location chief George Olang’o, the bees were provoked by a tractor that was maintaining the feeder road near the market.

He explained that members of the public tried to rescue the senior citizen from the wrath of the bees and rushed her to the hospital.

She, however, lost her life upon reaching the health facility.

The body of the deceased has been preserved at Manyatta Kobodo morgue.
