11 people dead after bus plunges into river in Embu

At least 11 people have been confirmed dead after a mini bus they were travelling in plunged into River Thura in Embu County.
Siakago OCPD Kivinda Kilonzo said the bus plying the Kirie-Siakago-Nairobi route was heading to Siakago town at around 8.30am when it developed a mechanical hitch.
It is reported that the bus run out of fuel as it moved uphill after crossing Thura bridge. The driver left the passengers in the bus and went to collect fuel and as he tried to reignite the vehicle, it began tumbling downhill.
Efforts by the driver to stop the bus were futile as the brakes failed and the vehicle plunged into the river.
Some of the survivors are receiving treatment at Siakago Level 4 Hospital and others at Embu Level 5 Hospital.
