The 'Tinder Swindler' story that shocked many has started to have a ripple effect across the globe with women largely coming out to tell their own stories with their own "swindlers" who left them high and dry.

Meet Rose Kemunto, also known as Rosa Kems who recently came forward with her own story that left her with a broken heart and an empty wallet.

Kemunto revealed in an interview with Hot 96 on Thursday, that she was allegedly swindled out of millions of shillings by a Kenyan man, identified only as D* for the purposes of this article

According to Kemunto, the two had met on Facebook and overtime developed a romantic relationship. She saw a future with him because he presented himself as "a good Christian man."

Kemunto started seeing red flags when D* asked for funds on the first weekend they spend together at her home.

She revealed that he requested for Ksh.500,000 to handle financial issues in his electricity poles distribution business, ignoring all the advise from friends and family.

“He had a tender to supply some poles, but he wasn’t able to finish the tender, so he needed more funding,” she recalled. “The first time I withdrew Ksh.500,000 and gave him in cash, then we went and had coffee and I also paid for the coffee."

She was looking at the future and building something solid for their family.

She said she was sure the money was not lost because they drew up an agreement and even involved their lawyers.

Two months in, as the two were blossoming in their cocoon of happiness, the man asked for yet another lump sum amount.

This time Kemunto gave him Ksh.1.2 million which she borrowed from two lending institutions.

“He asked for Ksh.350,000, at the time I didn’t have the funds, so he kept asking me to borrow from an institution, so I borrowed from a Sacco and a bank, a total of Ksh.1.2 million,” she said.

He still asked for more, an additional Ksh.200,000 to facilitate the tender that was initially acquired. She still gave him despite being flat broke and even gave her logbook as security.

By this time, Kemunto’s account was completely depleted and she had resigned from her 9-5 job after putting all her hopes in the company that they envisioned building together.

“Because the logbook was in my name, we went to a lending institution to exchange the car, I signed the documents and gave them the logbook,” she bitterly recalled.

Kemunto revealed that after months of dating, he broke up with her, stating that he did not want to drag her down with the many debts he had accumulated.

Almost four years later, she has not yet received a penny out of the Ksh.1.9 million she gave him and an additional Ksh.350,000 investment from her brother.
