Snoop Dogg shares Gachagua meme as Kenyans continue to dominate viral conversations on the world stage

Kenyan memes have continued to rattle the world as veretan US rapper Snoop Dogg took to his Instagram page to, yet again, share a popular Kenyan meme, eliciting wild reactions from Kenyans.

On Monday, March 10, Snoop shared a meme driven from Rigathi Gachagua's viral press conference just days before his impeachment - in the short clip, the former deputy president can be seen pensively shuffling through a sheaf of papers, as if building up a defence.

Snoop, who has a penchant for sharing viral memes and hilarious short videos on his Instagram page, captioned the Gachagua clip: "U already know."

The clip itself is captioned: "Looking for the part of the story that says I'm the one to play with."

Moments after sharing the meme, Kenyans in their thousands flocked the comment section, leaving wild comments and reacting in all manner of ways, clearly bemused that such an American cultural heavyweight had noticed their online efforts - again.

Sports journalist Carol Radull wrote, "My fellow Kenyans! We made it again!"

Willis Raburu wrote, "Riggy G with the Snoop. We made it."

Instagram influencer Geoffrey Mboya said, "Gachagua is more popular than Ruto at this rate!"

Fashion designer Yvonne Odhiambo also chimed in, saying, "Kenya Hoyeeee! Riggy G ametufikisha hapa!"

Snoop's Gachagua meme comes more than five years after he first dabbled in the Kenyan memefield. In 2019, he shared a video of Pastor James Ng'ang'a, himself a regular meme topic, even prompting a hilarious reaction from the controversial preacher.

Snoop Dogg had shared a video of Pastor Ng’ang’a seemingly slapping worshipers in the name of prayers with the caption: “When u late on the offering money. The. Rev need his (money)…”

The rapper, however, deleted the post - but not before it had attracted millions of engagements.

In reaction, the founder of Neno Evangelism, while barely getting his name right, hit out at the US rapper, telling him to “leave him alone.”

"Naskia nimetembea huko na mtu anaitwa watchdogi… sniff dog… simunif dog. Ni mtu mmoja kama Michael Jackson. Naskia aliweka hiyo video akapata comment more than 1 million akatoa. Wewe sniff dog imba nyimbo zako za kimataifa achana na Ng’ang’a,” said Ng’ang’a.

Kenya's rise in dominating conversations online, especially with big personalities and social media platforms, seems to be on an upward trajectory.

Just recently, popular podcast Shits and Gigs reacted to a video of media personality King Kalala making an outrageous statement at Obinna's show, with her boldness and chutzpah becoming a viral topic for James Duncan and Fuhad, the hosts of the top three Spotify podcast.

Kalala, in her brash element, let out this one-liner: "I'm in love with somebody's boyfriend and I'm working on stealing him!"

This declaration immediately plunged the room into a ballpit of reactions and bewilderment, with the hosts' ensuing comments becoming talking points of their own.

Back in 2022, Comedian Arap Marindich's Safari Rally skit also rocked the world, with many Kenyans dubbing it the first meme to 'officially' go viral, internationally.

In the video from which the viral memes were generated, Marindich - with a dusty face and confused countenance - was seen impersonating a rally driver, explaining how extreme and tense the rally was.

He was accompanied by his ‘navigator’ whom he identified as Kaptula but refers to as just ‘Tula’.

Speaking in their Kalenjin dialect, the duo explained how challenging the terrain was as they ended up in a bush while trying to navigate the map, which they say was complex to understand.

Marindich's face would go on to grace countless international platforms, with his video doing an impressive tour around the globe - meme speaking.

The viral 'Anguka Nayo' challenge - which shot to popularity at the height of the Gen Z protests - also made its way to Hollywood and beyond after US-based Kenyan model and entrepreneur Rachel Mbuki introduced the slogan and dance to some of America's biggest TV stars.

In a post on Instagram, shared in July 2024, Mbuki could seen dancing to the song, with some Hollywood stars happily joining in and saying 'Anguka Nayo.'

The former Miss Universe contestant led multiple Hollywood stars in sending shoutouts to Kenya during the NBC Summer Press Tour red carpet event on Sunday.

Big names including Reba McEntire, Kelli Williams, Bellisa Escobedo, and Shanola Hampton joined the 'Anguka Nayo' trend, dancing to the line and extending their support and love to Kenyans.

Other stars, including Jessy Schram, Mellisa Peterman, Reid Scott, and LaRoyce Hawkins, also joined the fun, showering Kenyans with love and dancing along.

While some stars pronounced the line perfectly, others struggled but still appeared animated, with many nailing the dance moves as well.

A lively Rachel Mbuki kept the energy high, introducing star after star, all excited to show love to Kenya and try the 'Anguka Nayo' move.

"Kenya, my heart is with you. Your generation is gonna save us from ourselves. You guys and this generation, you're gonna be the ones to keep the planet spinning. Anguka Nayo!" actress Wendi McLendon said.
