Detectives from the homicide detectives of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have taken over investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of Constance Githinji.
The detectives on Wednesday revisited a short-stay apartment in
Kileleshwa, Nairobi, where the student reportedly died, as they intensified
efforts to establish what happened on the night of the incident.
The team questioned security guards and room service staff
and also retrieved CCTV footage to help piece together the sequence of events.
The investigators also interrogated five individuals,
including the security guard who was on duty that night.
The operation was led by Homicide Chief Martin Nyugutu, who
was accompanied by Constance’s parents as detectives combed through the scene
for additional evidence.
Citizen TV established that Constance fell from the sixth
floor of the building.
The apartment complex also has three basement parking
levels, meaning she technically fell from the ninth floor to the ground level.
As investigations continue, Citizen TV has also pieced
together Constance’s final movements before her death.
A friend who met her earlier that day said they had been
preparing to attend a birthday party in Gataka, Karen.
Employees at a beauty parlour, who requested anonymity, said
Constance had her hair done at the salon before leaving at around 10pm.
Social media posts later placed her at an entertainment spot
in Kileleshwa.
Citizen TV traced the location to an Ethiopian restaurant,
where staff confirmed that she had been there on the night of the incident.
“I will make sure someone will not pass through what I have
passed through with this incident. It is very painful. Even my wife, she’s not
here, she is under medication,” said her father, Rufas Githinji.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Thursday, April
29, as detectives continue with investigations.
