R&B star Usher forced to explain himself after appearing to wipe out his X account following Diddy arrest
Combs, who was a mentor to Usher, was arrested and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He is currently being held at Brooklyn's historically notorious Metropolitan Detention Center.
Fans speculated that the timing of the 'Burn' hitmaker’s social media cleanse was a little odd, given his close connection to Diddy and old videos resurfacing online.
One clip showed Kevin Hart interviewing the two men in which Combs said they used to ‘wrestle’ over cereal while others saw Usher discussing his teenage years living at his mentor’s house.
The 45-year-old singer, who performed at the Super Bowl earlier this year, has now set the record straight after fans linked the bizarre social blackout to the current legal case.
‘Account got hacked and damn y’all ran with it!’ Usher wrote before adding he would see fans that evening at his gig in California, USA.
However, his assurances didn’t go down well with followers who responded with sceptical comments about the ‘coincidence’.
Fans remained unconvinced as they took to social media to call out the 'Confessions' singer in the comments after several celebrities such as 50 Cent, Aubrey O'Day and Mary J Blige called out Diddy.
One user posted, "Usher just made himself a suspect after doing that. No one is gonna by the hacked story. We all know what you did there bruh!"
Whilst a second added, "Bro must've had some incriminating evidence in there."
However, it turns out Usher wasn't trying to cover anything nor was he trying to hide any history with Diddy - he may actually have been hacked.
As per the DailyCoin, a hacker took control of the account and launched a meme coin in his name on the Solana blockchain as part of a "rug pull" scam to bait investors, who went on to lose millions in cryptocurrency.
The hacker then demanded $4700 (Ksh. 605,000) to allow access to Usher's account whilst bragging about his perceived accomplishment.
Usher worked with Diddy from a young age; their history goes back to the singer’s 1994 debut album, which Combs executive produced.
Usher himself has described the activities at Diddy's house as 'curious'. He also added that, since he was merely a teenager then, he did not fully comprehend what exactly was going on in the house.
"For decades, Sean Combs … abused, threatened and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation and conceal his conduct,” read documents obtained by US media.
Combs, who pleaded not guilty, was denied bail at his Sept. 17 arraignment. If convicted of the charges, Combs faces a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum of life behind bars.
