Mimi ni Mzabibu: This hilarious TikTok trend is sweeping the Kenyan internet

A new Tiktok craze dubbed 'Mzabibu' is quickly sweeping the internet as Kenyans showcase their quirkiest dance moves to the song's catchy percussions.

The trend, which began a few days before the weekend, is based on a song called 'Mzabibu' done by a Mijikenda singer going by the name Zablon K. Ndale.

As the chorus kicks in, dancers burst their funniest moves - dressed eccentricly, they move their hips and arms in exaggerated ways, making sure to bend over and jerk around vigorously, as the beat thumps on.

The challenge, which was kicked off by a female Tiktok user going by the handle @aggie.kamau, who can be seen dancing inside a kiosk, was quickly taken over by hundreds of other users including a user going by the username @official_mickey_ who actually massively popularized the offbeat dance moves.

Dressed in a pair of green pants and an olive shirt, Mickey shuffles around comically, gesticulating extensively and kicking around his feet as the song gathers tempo.

So far, thousands of Kenyans have submitted their special renditions of the viral challenge with some doing it shirtless and others doing it from the confines of their classrooms.

The trick is, to pretend you are living in the early 1970s... And it all goes down from there.

First Daughter Charlene Ruto, known for her geniality, has also jumped on the challenge and, expectedly, did not disappoint.

The song goes: "Mimi ni mzabibuu, baba ni mkurimaa, nanwi mmatai shalaani matunda kisha gakule..."

Translated, the rich Mijikenda lyrics go, "I am the vine, and the father is the farmer, and you are the branches. Therefore, bear fruit..."

Already, the song has racked up an impressive 19k views on YouTube, just four days after it was published.

To properly ace the challenge, you are advised to be at your silliest self - find the giddiest outfit, make the looniest face, move your body in the most comical way and, if possible, find it in yourself to go the very extra mile in looking thoughtlessly daft.
