The Ogopa Deejays crooner, known for his catchy hooks, took to Facebook to narrate about his first meeting with the late Kunguru whom he cheekily says was 'speaking so fast' he could barely understand what he was saying.
Mr Lenny continued to remember his first days of working with Kunguru after a meeting was arranged for them by Lucas Bikedo, the Ogopa Deejays honcho.
"I remember I was introduced to you by Lucas of Ogopa. He told me there was a guy he wanted me to meet and work with... he said your voice was rough and husky and mine being soft and mellow... that the two would blend in very well...and so he organized the meeting tukapatana kwa studio. At 1st when we met you would speak so fast I couldn't understand what you were saying...ulikuwa unakula tu ma words," Lenny wrote.
The "Cash Money" hitmaker went on to reminisce about the collaborations the pair did which also produced a music video which went on to gain continental recognition.
"So prior to that Lucas had made me listen to your songs and I thought you had an interesting music style... So we went on to record our 1st Single "African Woman" which was kinda slow...mellow with a reggae vibe to it...after we recorded it I knew it was an instant hit and indeed it was...so much so that we decided to do a 2nd song by the title "Baby Don Go"... " Lenny went on.
"We did our 1st video and after releasing the song it went on to become one of the Biggest HITS at that time we even won a Kisima Award for best video and even got nominated for "Kora Awards" in South Africa."
Mr Lenny, who, under Ogopa Deejays, participated in a dozen collaborations for top hits, finished off by honouring Kunguru's work and thanking him for agreeing to work together.
"There's so much I can write about the experiences we had after the collabos we did but let me just Thank you for agreeing to work with me and trusting that I would deliver which I did.
Rest In Eternal Peace Brother Kunguru. Till we meet again. It is well, " he condoled.
Kunguru, born Eric Onguru, passed away Sunday at 2 pm.
The singer, a former Ogopa Deejays signee, was known for his hit songs 'Baby Don't Go' and 'African Woman' both of which featured Mr Lenny.
The musician's former manager attributed his prolonged illness to an accident he suffered circa 2009 that affected his spinal cord.
His unique style of music and lyrics earned him the nickname "Ladies' Man" during his early days in the music industry.
Apart from his music career, Kunguru also worked in the banking industry.
