Several months after Kenyan comedian Mulamwah’s public split from baby mama Carrol Sonnie, he has now revealed that the reason behind their breakup was a difference in financial decisions.

Mulamwah, in an interview with Dr. Ofweneke posted on the latter’s YouTube channel, claimed Sonnie, then his girlfriend, had issue with the fact that they were living below what she considered as their means.

He explained that he was not willing to part with a lot of money in order to sponsor a posh lifestyle.

The comedian revealed that they, for instance, lived in an apartment where he paid Ksh.9,000 in rent despite having over Ksh.1 million to his name.

“So issue yetu ilitokea hapo where nilijaribu ku-instill sense because there are some things that ladies like and if they miss it they will get it somewhere else,” he said.

“There are those people born in Nairobi, sisi tumekuja by bus, so we are here to hustle, we have two-three years then we go back, so it’s important that utengeneze hiyo place umetoka. Mi nikikaa hiyo nyumba ya Ksh.9,000 it doesn’t mean that I don’t have money, I have over a million shillings ata saa hii tukiongea.”

The Kitale-bred comedian was alive to the fact that where he came from, a measly Ksh.2,000 could go a long way to benefit the community.

He continued to say that he could only justify spending a lot of money on his and his family’s lifestyle if he had a steady stream of money.

“I come from places where money is really valued, nikipatia shosho yangu thao najua itamskuma ata wiki mbili so you can’t convince me to go waste ten or fifteen, unless you have created everything and have money incoming then now you can move to those levels of spending in that manner,” he stated.

The plan, Mulamwah said, was to stay in the Ksh.9,000 house as he builds his own masnion in Kitale; a project he said he is set to start this year.

“Nikikaa kwa iyo nyumba ya Ksh.9,000 aim yangu ni kujenga nyumba na nashukuru Mungu naanza kujenga hii mwaka, na si ndogo itakuwa kubwa,” he said.
