Over the weekend, Eric came under fire from a section of environment-conscious Kenyans who berated him for allegedly dousing a pink chemical into a waterfall as a creative way of announcing the gender of the couple's unborn baby.
In videos shared online, an elated Eric and his partner Lynne Njehia were joined by a group of friends at a Thika waterfall as they all watched the waterfall turn pink - an indication that the couple was expecting a girl.
However, many people castigated the pair for contaminating the waterfall and putting the aquatic life in the area at risk.
After much online brouhaha, Eric has now addressed the controversy, claiming that the substance used to turn the waterfall pink was actually not harmful and that it was, indeed, food colour laced with fish food from the supermarket.
Speaking to radio personality Ankali Ray, Eric refuted claims that he doused toxic chemicals on fish.
"Sio rangi, sio paint ya ukuta. Tulienda tukanunua pale Industrial Area zile samaki wanaweza kula ama wazirambe....lazima uchukue permission kutoka kwa watu wa maji. Huwezi kubali kufanya kitu kama hio lazima ukuwe na license," Eric said.
"Sio kemikali, ni chakula ya samaki, tumechezea tu. Ni chakula ya samaki tumeweka food color..." he added.
Lately, influential Kenyans have been pulling all the stops when it comes to announcing the gender of their unborn baby, a popular ceremony known as a 'gender reveal party'.
Early March, Kenyan socialite and businesswoman Faith Makau, popularly known as Amber Ray, and her partner Kennedy Rapudo splashed hundreds of thousands of shillings on their own gender reveal party.
The grandiose event featured a massive billboard erected along Ngong Road featuring a pregnant Amber Ray, written, 'Is it a Boy or a Girl?'
It also featured a generous supply of chopper rides and activities.
And in December last year, socialite Vera Sidika also used a chopper to announce the gender of her unborn baby - as friends watched from below, blue dust was splashed towards the ground, an indication that Vera was having a boy.
