YVONNE'S TAKE: Gov't kills all the time?

We used to believe leadership is a position of responsibility where things that are said and done are weighed way before they are said and done. Where everything is weighed way in advance before it is said and done. Nowadays, it seems, we shoot first and aim later.

In armoury terms, we are misfiring big time, and here is the latest from the Governor of Kisii County.

As he himself says, he was on the receiving end of those police bullets during the ‘Baba While You Were Away’ rally.

Did the good Governor of Kisii consider that normal at the time? Have we reached a point where the scoreboard of an administration is by how many people it has killed? Because surely, there is no prize for winning that comparison.

Is accountability a comparative exercise? So, fewer people have been killed under this administration and that is OK, or…better?

Furthermore, if we are to go by his argument that the previous administration killed many more people, why then did they gladly accept the leader of that administration to support and endorse their presidential candidate in 2022?

Or maybe, going by his logic, is it that the Uhuru administration killed fewer people than the previous administration? Is this the new standard by which we should judge the performance of an administration?

Don’t get me wrong, the good Governor is free to support who he likes, and for whatever reasons he sees fit.

If the weighing scale of how many lives have been lost, or rather how many people have been killed, is the gold standard, then so be it.

It is a free country, I suppose, and the Constitution guarantees many freedoms, including the freedom of thought and the freedom of speech.
