The 2015 world javelin champion Julius Yego believes that a blend of experience and emerging talent will enable the Team Kenya to register good results at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland which are set to run, from July 3 to August 2, 2026.

Yego, who is among the most experienced athletes in the Kenyan squad, believes the team has prepared well, and is capable of competing for medals across various disciplines, despite facing stiff competition from other Commonwealth nations.

The 2015 world champion said the blend of experienced competitors and emerging young talent gives Kenya a strong chance of finishing among the leading nations at the Games.

"The quality is there because the team has young athletes which shows you that the country is in good hands going forward towards upcoming competitions. There is a mixture of elite athletes and the upcomings ones who are our future. We have many young athletes who are eager to prove themselves, alongside experienced competitors who understand what it takes to perform on the big stage. I believe Team Kenya will make the country proud," said Yego.

The veteran athlete's  sentiments were echoed by young thrower Irene Jepkemboi who urged Kenyans to rally behind the national team, saying athletes draw extra motivation from the support they receive back home.

"I have a positive mind that I will represent the country well and we will come back with good results. Every athlete wants to represent the country with pride and I ask Kenyans to continue supporting us because their encouragement gives us the confidence to perform at our best," he added.

The Games will run from July 23 to August 3, with officials expressing confidence that the country will once again be among the top medal contenders.
