A 19-year old woman was on Friday in court for allegedly kidnapping a 9-year old girl in a church in Nairobi.

The suspect, Dorcas Cheruto Wangila, who appeared before Magistrate Kennedy Cheruyot, is alleged to have abducted the minor from her mother Susan Wambui Nderu during a church service at the Neno Evangelism Center on August 15.

Citizen Digital learnt that during the church service at Neno Evangelism church on Thursday, commotion occurred after a church goer seemed to have caught the “holy spirit”.

It is during the commotion that the accused, who is a house help in Githurai, claimed to have left her wallet at the main gate with one of the security guards and wanted to get it back.

She then asked the child who was seated next to her to accompany her to the gate.

The mother, noticing that her daughter was missing raised alarm claiming the woman was kidnapping her child as she had left the church compound. Cheruto pleaded not guilty to the charges.

She also begged for a lenient cash bail saying that she was a house help.

The court nonetheless, set her to be released on a cash bail of Ksh.500,000 or a bond of Ksh.500,000.
