Police are searching for a woman who abandoned her
two months old baby at Dina junction in Webuye, after alighting from a Bungoma bound matatu.
The woman is said to have requested Mary Wanjala, a trader selling
fruits and cereals at the junction, to assist her in holding the baby as she carries
the luggage she had alighted with to another vehicle.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mary Wanjala said that the incident
happened on Sunday evening at about 5:30 pm.
“After carrying this child for about 30 minutes I realized
the woman had taken long to return so I went to the Kitale stage where she had
taken her luggage only to be told she had left a long time ago," Mary said.
Later on, Mary reported the incident at Webuye police station where she was asked by the Webuye children department to take care of the child in the meantime as police seek other arrangements.
"When we came back the next day police and officers from Webuye children department asked me to take care of the child as other arrangements go on, on how the child will be taken care of," she said.
The police officers at Webuye police station bought clothes
and food for the abandoned child.
The mother of two said that when she went home with the
child, her husband was a little bit adamant but he later on accepted to help
take care of the child.
"We then named her Bahati Angel and decided that we
shall raise her," she said.
She asked residents to share with police any information that could lead to the arrest of the woman.
