In
a shocking incident that unfolded in the Saina neighbourhood of Kajiado town,
armed youth arrived and demolished the house of a widow named Muthoni Mwaniki following
a land dispute.
The
widow claims that despite purchasing the land a decade ago for Ksh.100,000, the
supposed landowner has returned, demanding that she vacates the property.
“Wameharibu
mabati, vitu zangu za nyumba ziko kwa barabara, sina pahali pa kwenda nitalala
papa hapa na watoto wangu,” Muthoi lamented.
According
to Muthoni, the landowner had approached her, demanding that she vacate the
land.
Unable
to reach a resolution, they lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Lands in Kajiado
but, to her dismay, the ministry compelled her to accept a refund of Ksh.84,000
and leave immediately.
“Wakati
nikienda kwa mkubwa wa ardhi, hakuna kitu ananiambiaga, ananiambia tu nihame...alinilazimisha
nichukue zile pesa nilikuwa nimepatia Rebecca na nihame kabisa,” she said.
Citizen
TV reached out to the region’s Minister of Lands Hamilton Parsaina who
confirmed his knowledge of the incident.
He
stated that he had resolved the case by reaching an agreement with Muthoni to
refund her money and vacate the land.
However,
Muthoni claimed that she was coerced into accepting the refund, which would be
insufficient to purchase another plot due to the significant increase in land
prices over the past ten years.
Police
arrived at the scene and arrested the woman claiming ownership of the land. She
is currently being detained and is expected to appear in court to face charges
of unauthorized demolition.
